2019 Union County Plant a Seed Grants Program Presents:
Union County Means Green
Thanks to 2019 Freeholder Chair Bette Jane Kowalski, this countywide program, funded by the Freeholder Board is to help children and adults connect with the experience of growing fresh produce in their communities, leading to improved nutrition as well as opportunities for education, recreation, social activities, community service and neighborhood beautification. Educating gardeners on best practices for a healthy and successful garden is also an important part of this program.
This past year saw an expansion of the program to include waist high senior beds, pollinator gardens and hydroponics. The hydroponic systems used are supported by an curriculum and are engineered for classroom use and training.
