Groundwork Elizabeth’s Green Team are young people learning, working, and teaching about the environment. We have created nature trails in Elizabeth, removed invasives at Yellowstone, and led nature explorations for adults and children.
The projects described on this site, though centered here in Elizabeth, have taken us across the country, enabling our Green Team members to have first-hand experience in making the planet a greener place to live.
We work with the US Fish and Wildlife Service in urban initiatives at the Great Swamp and here in Elizabeth
We learn and work at National Parks, from Morristown to Gateway, to Rocky Mountain and Yellowstone.
We are working in conjunction with Elizabeth, Union County, Private sector partners and the community at large along fragile watershed areas to study, document, and repair them. Examples are the Elizabeth River Trail, the Elizabeth Nature Center at the Peterstown Community Center, Travers Brook, Kean University, and the Arthur Kill.
Under Urban Waters and Trails, change Trotters Creek to Travers Branch and add this to the content under what is existing now.
Through a partnership with Phillips 66, Union County Parks and Rec, The City of Elizabeth and the PSE&G Foundation, Groundwork Elizabeth is currently building a Nature Learning Outpost at this location.
Elizabeth Nature Center (ENC)
This is the Green Teams home base. At the ENC, located in the Peterstown Community Center, can be found our electronic field guides, interactive computer programs, and an observation deck along the Elizabeth River.
